Interesting, you assume that a.tm must be a file name.
I thought maybe it was a host name, since that makes nc look a
little like telnet.  With a server running on a.tm, at port 9000,
nc maybe connects to it and retrieves the japh string.

As it turns out, nc is an editor.  (Maybe it comes standard in
some linux distributions...)
