[MacPerl] grab web page

Hi,

Can anyone show me how to write the following function in *both* MacPerl and Linux?

# &getWebContent('url') returns a string that is the web content (html text) at the specified url. Example: $content getWebContent('http://www.apple.com');

I think this function can get complex (??) but I'm now just looking for a simple solution so I can get an idea of how it works. (e.g. what package I need, through what mechanism...etc. I know very little about networks related technology and have no webmaster experience. (e.g. sockets, OpenTransport, ports...etc.))

Thanks for help.
